November 19th is only few days away now.  I think it’s safe to say that we’re all a little apprehensive about the days and weeks ahead.

Colt will be having surgery on his hands this coming Friday at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital.  The doctors will be separating the joined fingers on both his right and left hands. He will likely lose the pinky finger on the right hand as there is no bone structure.  He will also lose the little middle finger on his left hand.

The schedule right now is that Colt and Brittany will be staying the night, and TSRHC, on Thursday and the surgery will be early Friday morning.   He could be out of the hospital on Sunday.

We’ll have more information, such as recovery time and physical therapy, after the doctors meet with Brittany on Thursday.

It’s hard to imagine the changes that are coming to these little hands.  He’s worked very hard to learn how to do things the way they are now.  Like holding the crayon in the picture above. Like holding and throwing a ball, playing with his toy cars,  or the blocks,  grabbing his pacifier, typing on my keyboard, even scratching his nose.

I wonder what it will mean to him to see, and use his hands, after the surgery.  After the casts come off.

It’s also possible that doing those things will be infinitely easier.  I think as I write this that I shouldn’t be so worried about the process as much as about the results.

These little hands just might be doing bigger things someday.
